Lately running has become a huge part of my life: MCM is just three weeks away! As such, it has taken up a larger share of my Facebook statuses which is starting to annoy me so I am glad to start blogging here again. If you are at all interested it is here for you to read.
I have been sacrificing some social time for all of this running and I have been drinking less beer which is probably more healthy but also more lonely as a single 26 year old. For instance, I am running my longest and last super long run tomorrow morning and as such I am staying in tonight and going to sleep early. When you are running 25 miles in the morning you tend to want to take it easy. The real accomplishment will be to stay festive at Oktoberfest tomorrow afternoon after a body sapping workout.
In other news I had a great workout Wednesday:
5 x Mile with 3 minute jog in between: 6:06, 5:49, 5:55, 5:44, 5:44. This was a great workout considering how tired my legs are.
Thursday: 8 miles
Friday: 8 miles
Tomorrow I want to run 25 miles or so. After that, I will include quicker speed workouts next week then cut back my mileage by 40% after next week, then another 30% the week before the marathon.

The Day After
Yesterday I ran farther than I've ever run before. Today my legs are destroyed. I see why long runs can only be done so often. Today I ran 39 minutes. My joints and tendons are sore. I drank some whey protein and plan on getting plenty of sleep this week.
Nothing too exciting today. Just another Monday.

Long Run
I never run by distance (unless in a race). I am a fan of the Lydiard idea of simply running by time. That way I never race myself and I never have to have pre-established routes. It just makes sense.
Yesterday I went out and ran 2hrs. and 1 minute. I was completely spent by the time I was done. I assume the only reason that I made it that long was due to the fact that I took Friday and Saturday off. Sometimes you just know you need a break before injury sets in--you can only push so far. I'm finally realizing how it might feel to run a marathon...man it takes a lot out of you. It's not like a 5k when you are recovered the next day. This is going to be rough.
Another reason why I felt so good running yesterday is probably because I didn't have any beer on Saturday night. I've noticed that this really makes a difference. I should watch the beer intake, at least until after October (sadface).

Running
As many of you know, I'm training for the Marine Corps Marathon....which means that I'm running quite a bit...I could write a book about my running history! Needless to say I don't really feel like writing one to inform everyone. I am simply starting this blog as part of a training log. However, I do not want to limit this blog to just running. Although that activity has once again become a larger part of my life.
I figure I will get on here and talk about my run tomorrow. Most likely I will think of something interesting on my run tomorrow to discuss here. If you want to read my posts that's great. If not, no worries. This blog will be easier to update than a training log so I am doing this mostly for myself. I've noticed some people talk about my facebook posts relating to running so I am moving them here if anyone wants to read.
Tonight though I am having a few beers and going out....I can't waste being a 26 year old bachelor in a city like DC...too many good times for me to remember when I am an old man sitting on the front porch talking about the glory days.
